Apple has released iTunes 11, the major rewrite of its app and media management software that the company promised when it unveiled the iPhone 5 in September. Though Apple had originally anticipated delivering an update to the software by October, the software was delayed until it finally became available for Mac OS X and Windows today.
The latest version of iTunes has a completely different design that makes browsing music stored on a desktop much easier. The design makes searching for content simpler and provides more organization options, and those features extend to a new layout for the iTunes store. Purchases made in iTunes are added to iCloud and can be automatically downloaded to all Apple devices - including an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - as soon as the user buys a song, album, movie, or book.
Upgrades to Apple iOS have made discovering and managing content on iPhones and iPads much easier, but for many, iTunes still ranks as an important tool for managing media on the desktop. Apple believes iTunes 11 should improve on that experience, but users can decide for themselves by downloading the latest version from Apple.com. The download page is not yet available for everyone, but Mac OS X users can access it in the Mac App Store if they do not see it online yet. Others may notice that the iTunes website says that the file is iTunes 10.7 but it downloads iTunes 11, though that may not be the case for everyone.
